LIVE REVIEW + PHOTOS: Deco @ Heartbreakers | 07.11.2018

Deco have had a phenomenal year with a string of festivals and 2 headline tours. To round off the current one, they travelled down to play Heartbreakers in Southampton.

Support came from Megan Lara Mae and local band Kings and Castles, and whilst many in the crowd were previously unaware of them, they react positively to the tunes played.

Deco kick off the set with their latest single, the euphoric ‘Upside Down’, warming up the crowd before weaving into older releases such as ‘Roam’ and ‘Wild One’, much to the audience’s delight. Throughout the set, lead singer Max Kendall stops briefly to discuss the upcoming EP (set to be released early 2019) and introduces the crowd to a new single taken from it – ‘Don’t Waste Your Time’, one that sounds like it’ll be a hit when it’s released with its huge sound. The set ends with fan-favourite Turn Around’, bringing the show to a bright ending.

Deco aren’t ones to hide from huge, soaring indie-pop melodies. Whilst some bands openly dislike mainstream music, Deco embrace it, fusing it into their own music to produce an energetic blend of pop and indie.

This energy is reflected in the band’s live set, if not amplified, with the combination of lead singer Max Kendall’s mellow vocals mixed with fellow member John Dell’s soaring guitar and the backing synths.

Deco proved that they know how to get a crowd going, and it seems as if they are only going to go up from here on. Their songs have the potential to be something bigger, and their performances are impressive to watch.

To add to that, the band have already had a phenomenal year, kicking off the year with a headline tour, following it by playing packed out festivals such as 110 Above, Y Not and The Great Escape alongside the likes of Anteros, Blaenavon and The Magic Gang. They have even previously supported artists such as Declan McKenna and Clean Cut Kid.
