A somewhat quiet month of new releases, yet, the standard remains as high as ever. The following five records were our favourites from the month of May, and are listed below in no particular order.
Lime Garden– Sick & Tired
Lime Garden are one of our favourite bands at the moment, despite their small discography. At the very end of May, the Brighton four-piece treated us to a brand new, grungy, melancholic new single characterised by discordant relationships between drums and synths. Sick & Tired broadens Lime Garden’s sound, whilst maintaining their instantly recognisable drum patterns and grooves.

black midi– Cavalcade
Another late May release, black midi’s second album was yet another example of the South London band’s progressive musicianship. An album written with much more structure and less experimentation, yet is still unpredictable and pioneers a unique blend of genres. Read our review of their new album here.

easy life – life’s a beach
A highly anticipated debut album from easy life was finally released for us to hear last month, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. life’s a beach is the soundtrack to a lazy summer, coincidently being written during last year’s lockdown. Characterised by emphasised droning bass and kicks, the album remains consistent and cohesive despite its wide-range of genres featured in the twelve-track debut.

Malady– Famous Last Words
Like Lime Garden, Malady are another band to watch out for. Two singles and an impressive following have been built on their debut single, London, I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down; their second single and one of our ‘Records Of The Month’ is another unusual, but perfected combination of post-rave/electronica and indie-guitar/synth music.

She Drew The Gun– Cut Me Down
A feisty new single welcomes back She Drew The Gun, with Cut Me Down being their first release since 2019. A raw punk track dosed with indie-rock and psych-pop keeps tension on a knife-edge with verse, chorus and others inducing a continuous mosh pit.
